Palia Royal Highlands expansion is releasing next week on May 12, 2026, introducing the biggest adventure zone, a new story questline, a mount (horses) addition, new resources, and much more. Similar to last year’s expansion release, Elderwood, there will be some requirements to access the new Royal Highlands expansion. For players to access the new adventure zone without any restrictions, it is best for them to prepare themselves while they have the time. In this guide, we will explain how to prepare for the Royal Highlands expansion in Palia before it launches.
The preparations for the Royal Highlands expansion in Palia are specifically for accessing the new adventure zone on day one. If you are wondering what the requirements are to access it, how soon you can get the horse, or what type of tools you need, we have mentioned all that below. All of the sections below discuss the main preparation for the Royal Highlands adventure zone in Palia, releasing on May 12, 2026, across all platforms.

Accessing the new Royal Highlands adventure zone will require the players to at least complete the “Like a Bird” quest to attain the glider. It is one of the earliest quests in the game, meaning a lot of new players can explore the new adventure zone on day one.

In addition to the previous preparation, if you want to pursue the Royal Highlands storyline, you must complete the Elderwood main story first. It is because the Royal Highlands storyline feeds into the Elderwood story, so you cannot pursue it until you finish it first. I highly recommend players to prioritize completing the main Elderwood storyline, so that they can start the new story on day one. Moreover, the first horse that the game grants you is also a part of the Royal Highlands questline. If you want to get the horse on day one, then completing Elderwood should be your number 1 priority.

Now, the main thing that all of the players must know is that accessing the Royal Highlands will require them to board a boat. The boat that players need to board will spawn at the De Mer Dock, southwest of the Elderwood zone. It is best to explore the Elderwood and complete its story before you head on to the new adventure zone.
In addition to completing the main storyline quests to pursue the new questline for Royal Highlands, I also recommend completing any side quests beforehand. It will make you track the new quests easily and keep you engaged exploring the new adventure zone.

As horses will be joining the ranch with the Royal Highlands expansion, it is best that you make some space for them. You can donate the adult animals or put the animals into the holding pens to make space at your ranch. Taking care of horses will reward you with fertilizers, crucial for growing crops effectively.

A crucial preparation for the new Royal Highlands would be to stockpile around 200,00 Gold, mainly for the new Jadium Storage recipe. Yes, the next tier of storage, Jadium Storage, will be available with the Royal Highlands expansion. As the Palium Storage recipe costs 100,000 Gold, I am pretty certain that the new Jadium Storage will cost either 150,000 or 200,000 Gold. Whatever the case, you should have 200,000 Gold to be able to purchase the new tier of storage to increase the overall storage capacity.
Lastly, I would advise you to upgrade the tools to at least the Fine tier. This way, you will be able to collect most of the resources, creatures, and forageables. You do not have to go for the Exquisite tier, but if you already have Exquisite tier tools, then great.
In addition to the preparations above, here are some tips for Royal Highlands expansion in Palia.
