Transport for London is consulting residents on significant changes to five bus routes to support the construction of 10,000 new homes at Meridian Water in North London.
The large-scale regeneration of the former industrial site aims to address housing shortages, with development expected to continue into the 2040s.
The first homes welcomed residents in 2024, with hundreds more scheduled for completion each year as the project expands.
TfL has warned that without changes, many future homes would sit more than 400 metres from existing bus services.
Central to the proposal is extending the 476 bus route beyond its current terminus at Northumberland Park.
TfL plans to run the service through Meridian Water station and onward to the edge of the development near the North Circular Road.
Under the same plan, the 341 route would be shortened to terminate at Northumberland Park instead of continuing to Meridian Water.
The night service N341 would still extend to the new development, matching the revised endpoint of the 476.
TfL is also considering a substantial reroute of the 444 service between Turnpike Lane and Chingford.
Rather than staying on the North Circular, the bus would divert via Conduit Lane, serve Meridian Water directly, then rejoin the main road.
This change would bring buses closer to new residential streets but remove some existing stops along the North Circular.
TfL acknowledges this adjustment could inconvenience certain current passengers.
Further proposals involve switching the termination points of the W8 and 192 routes.
The W8 would be redirected from Lee Valley Athletics Centre to run through Meridian Water before finishing at Tottenham Hale.
TfL said the W8’s use of double-decker buses ensures adequate capacity for the growing neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, the 192 would follow the W8’s existing path on Montagu Road and terminate at Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
TfL has accepted that some residents will need to change buses under the proposed layout.
It also confirmed that certain North Circular stops near Meridian Water would no longer be served by the 444.
A public consultation is now open, giving Londoners until Monday, February 23 to submit feedback.
TfL said responses will play a key role in shaping final decisions on how best to serve the expanding community.
