Liverpool finally ended their recent losing streak as they grabbed an important 2-0 away win against West Ham United this past weekend. Meanwhile, league leader Arsenal failed to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea
After picking up three consecutive defeats in all competitions, the Reds were under huge pressure to get back on winning ways this past weekend. However, the match against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side looked like another tricky one, especially in the first 45 minutes.
Drawing 0-0 in the first half, Liverpool finally got things going in their favor as they broke the deadlock after 60 minutes through their record signing, Alexander Isak. West Ham’s chance to get back into the tie pretty much evaporated following Lucas Paqueta’s silly sending off on 84 minutes.
That red card gave Liverpool a massive advantage, and they sealed the win with a second goal from Cody Gakpo in stoppage time. An important win for Arne Slot’s boys, who will look to pick up more positive results in their upcoming matches.
Meanwhile, the Gunners failed to continue their recent two consecutive big wins, after only picking up a point against the Blues. Arriving at Stamford Bridge with confidence, Arsenal didn’t have the most convincing performance in the first 30 minutes.
However, the situation seems to be turning in Arsenal’s favor just before the half-time break as Chelsea had to play with 10 men. Moises Caicedo saw red after a VAR review considered him to have made a reckless challenge on Mikel Merino.
Nevertheless, despite playing with a man short, it was Chelsea that got ahead, thanks to a goal from Trevoh Chalobah’s header. Arsenal did manage to draw level 11 minutes later as Merino netted the equalizing goal to secure a precious point for his team.
Premier League weekend results:
