As the final event on the PGA Tour, this week’s RSM Classic has unique stakes. There’s the regular purse, and the winner will earn $1.26 million. And then there’s the Tour points race.
The Classic is the last opportunity for players to move into the top 100, which secures full playing privileges for 2026 — and chances at many more purses. Understandably, then, nerves are high.
Said Sam Ryder of moving into the top 100: “It would mean a lot. It would mean a lot, for sure. I love what I do and I want to have job security for as long as possible. I don’t see a retirement in my near future hopefully.”
Said Doug Ghim: “It means a lot obviously to be out here. I also know that I will probably get a handful of starts next year, and if I have to go back to the Korn Ferry Tour, that’s what I’ll do. At the end of the day, I know I’m tough enough to handle that. I know that everything happens for a reason. If I have to go do that to prove that I can win out there and come back, then that’s what I’ll do.
“But I’ll do my best in trying to win the tournament. … I would rather be on the PGA Tour next year, but I’m ready to handle whatever will happen.”
