Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Pressure Mounts Amid Poor Form, West Ham Loss

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is facing mounting scrutiny after a string of disappointing results.

The Dane, who replaced Ange Postecoglou over the summer, has struggled to steady Spurs’ league form.

Saturday’s home defeat to West Ham left Tottenham languishing 14th in the Premier League table.

The team has managed just two wins from their last 13 matches, including only two league victories at home all season.

This difficult run has intensified speculation over Frank’s future at North London’s club.

Xavi Emerges as Potential Replacement

One name being discussed as a possible successor is Xavi, the former Barcelona midfielder and coach.

Xavi has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in 2024 and has previously been linked to Premier League managerial roles.

He was among the candidates considered to replace Enzo Maresca at Chelsea before the club opted for Liam Rosenior.

While it is not certain Xavi would accept a Spurs offer, he has expressed interest in managing in England.

“Of course? Where, I don’t know,” Xavi told The Athletic in 2025 when asked about a return to coaching.

“There’s no hurry for me, but I’d like a good project. Like, ‘You have four years to work and make a project’.

I’d love to work in the Premier League because I love the passion there.

In Spain, it’s too much about the result.”

Admiration for Project-Based Management

Xavi has highlighted Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as an example of a coach trusted with a long-term project.

Arteta, now in his sixth year at the Emirates Stadium, has overseen a steady improvement following a challenging start.

“Arteta with Arsenal – it’s his sixth year with Arsenal and there were seasons when it was difficult, but his club trusted the process and continued.

He’s doing well. That doesn’t happen in Spain,” Xavi added.

His comments underline his preference for clubs willing to provide time and stability to build a team.

Frank Prepares for Champions League Test

Despite criticism and the boos heard during Saturday’s loss, Frank is expected to remain in charge for Tottenham’s Champions League fixture against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

The defeat to West Ham marked the visitors’ first league win in more than two months.

Frank acknowledged the emotional toll of consecutive narrow defeats.

“It’s tough to take, it hurts a lot,” he told Sky Sports.

“The boys put everything in, and that’s a sign of a squad that is fighting, doing everything they can to try and win.

It’s fair to say if there was to be a winner in the second half then it should have been us.

The way we came back into it, the same as at Bournemouth, both games we lost in the last minute.

That makes it emotionally tough for the players, me, the club, the fans, everyone.

We conceded on a deflected shot and a last-minute corner, which we should have done better with.”

With European competition approaching, Spurs must balance the pressure to deliver results with the uncertainty surrounding their managerial situation.

Xavi’s potential availability adds another layer to speculation, as the club and supporters ponder what path the future may hold.
