This touching musical tells the story of Simba, who has a difficult path to the throne ahead of him and must assert himself against his evil uncle Scar. It is about fear, courage, the meaning of life and that you must never give up. Based on the Disney film, this musical developed into a Broadway hit and impresses hundreds of visitors every day. When it comes to musicals, The Lion King is as good as it gets!
If you are on vacation in New York, you should see one of the many great musicals. One of them is Wicked. For 10 years this famous musical has been on Broadway. It tells the so far mysterious story of the Witches of Oz around the green-skinned witch Elphaba and her special friendship with the witch Glinda.
A rap musical about the first US Treasury Secretary? Hamilton is the hottest musical on Broadway right now, and with good reason!
What is the Musical Hamilton About?
The Broadway musical tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, the “10 dollar founding father without a father”, who came to the United States as an orphan after a hurricane had destroyed the small Caribbean island he called his home. In the time span of almost 30 years (1773-1804) he moved to the United States, overcame poverty, fought in the American War of independence and played a major role in the United States’ first government while facing struggles and rivalry. That, however, is only one side of the story. In the musical, you will also learn about his personal life, including friendships, love, family and the country’s first affair. Even after Hamilton “throws away his shot” in the duel of 1804, his legacy lives on.
Finally, Moulin Rouge made it to Broadway! The musical has long been anticipated by both theater enthusiasts and fans of the movie from 2001. Replacing Kinky Boots in Al Hirschfeld Theatre, Moulin Rouge brings one of your all-time favorite movies to life. Yet, you shouldn’t expect a musical that’s 100% true to the original!
Our personal Moulin Rouge review
Moulin Rouge surely blew us away! It is one of the most entertaining musicals I have seen. The way the performers worked the crowd was unparalleled. Everybody had a great time and the applause after each musical number reflected the excitement in the theater. Moulin Rouge made sure to keep the audience entertained at all times. Before the show even started, artists on the stage set the mood for a licentious Parisian burlesque show. The final musical number even had the entire audience clapping, singing and dancing along. Everybody celebrated the show.
Al Hirschfeld Theatre was completely transformed for Moulin Rouge. The set and stage design is the most opulent one I have ever seen. It truly sets the scene for what it is; a musical sparkling with diamonds. Having been to the real Moulin Rouge in Paris before, I definitely felt some similarities. That was only reinforced by the premium seating in the Front Orchestra section that had little tables and special seats resembling the seating in the Paris’ Moulin Rouge. As I have mentioned before, however, I do not recommend selecting those seats if you want to get the best experience.
MJ The Musical in New York: It’s the new Broadway musical about Michael Jackson – with over 25 of his greatest hits. Immerse yourself in the life of the King of Pop, let yourself be carried away and get an insight into the creative processes of one of the greatest artists in history.
Whether young or old, MJ The Musical in New York is an experience for nearly every generation. Since the 1960s, the King of Pop has captivated people all over the world with his music and dancing. And even after his death in June 2009, the era continued: His greatest hits are still playing in clubs and on radios, and the moonwalk will probably be seen forever on dance floors around the world. But the musical itself exists in only one place: on Broadway in New York City, arguably the world’s most famous theater district in Manhattan.
MJ The Musical in New York tells the successful story of the artist Michael Jackson and takes you back once again to the most important events of his time. It revisits his life through more than 25 of his biggest and best-selling songs and through his unique show-stopping performances. The energetic musical also offers exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses from 1992, when the King of Pop was preparing for his Dangerous World Tour. Relive the most memorable moments of his story on Broadway!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is an original new story by J.K. Rowling. The story takes place many years after Harry Potter’s last adventure “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” at the end of which, Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Draco are bringing their own children to the Hogwarts Express.
That’s where the story picks up. When Harry Potter’s son Albus first arrives at Hogwarts, not only must he face the challenge of living up to his famous father’s reputation but also must carve his own path in the school’s hallowed halls. Nothing is ever simple in Hogwarts and Albus’ adventure is both nostalgic for fans of the original series and packs plenty of its own twists and surprises for seasoned and new viewers alike.
We can’t tell you more at this point, as we don’t want to reveal the entire story for you. At each viewing, fans are given collectible buttons with the phrase #KeepTheSecrets, reminding us not to give away any spoilers.
The Book of Mormon on Broadway is probably one of the most entertaining musicals in New York. Since its debut in 2011, it has not only caused a lot of controversies but also won 9 Tony Awards. You can’t miss this show!
Since its debut in 2011, the Musical The Book of Mormon was considered edgy and caused a lot of controversy for its vulgar and profane language. At first, you may expect a show that’s making fun of the Mormon religion entirely, but that is not true. You will see that the musical does not only mock Mormonism but religion in general. No one is spared, not even Jesus or Darth Vader! The intent of The Book of Mormon Musical is not to offend anyone, but to ultimately endorse positive power: It doesn’t matter what you believe in, as long as it can give you hope and make you stronger.
Bottom line: The Book of Mormon is an extremely funny and witty musical that tries to convey a meaningful message.
With SIX, an impressive and highly emotional musical from Great Britain composed by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss comes to Broadway in New York. The six divorced women of Henry VIII are invited on stage to describe their fate as queens in a world dominated by men.
An enchanting transformation takes place on stage: The queens, trapped in the values and rigid structures of the Royal Family, unfold into powerfully singing pop icons, offering a celebratory performance as they come to terms with the heartbreak and suffering of historical entanglements and tyranny of a husband and king.
Six Broadway New York offers top-notch and entertaining entertainment for the entire family. The characters of the six main actresses were inspired by pop stars such as Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Adele. You can look forward to an impressive evening that evolves from an historical and ironic reappraisal of sorrow and suffering to a boisterous party like a pop concert. The musical Six has been performed in London’s West End, in Chicago, in Boston, in Edmonton, in Sydney, and on several cruise ships. Now Six can be seen on the legendary Broadway in New York.
The musical Six could be seen as a 21st-century-style reckoning with the old monarchical structures – the six ex-wives of Henry VIII, tormented by death, divorce, torture, beheading, and assassination, come together in an afterlife as rebellious divas to collectively sing out, powerfully and sonorously, against the injustices that have befallen them. The musical consists of a retelling of the lives of the six ex-wives, with them holding a contest on stage. The winner of the contest is the woman who had the most horrible experience with her common husband. Continuing their competition, however, the pop queens come to the conclusion that they have defined themselves only through Henry, the King, and have been completely robbed of their individuality. Without their spouse’s affection, they could have led more fulfilling and successful lives, living happily ever after.
Hadestown’s musical had already been on the billboard of the New York Theatre Workshop, off Broadway, for some years. However, it has now earned a place among the best musicals and shows in New York, and you can find it on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
