Manchester United shocked the footballing world this Monday as they announced the sacking of Ruben Amorim following their weekend 1-1 draw against Leeds United. Meanwhile, Chelsea are now reportedly edging closer to appointing Liam Rosenior as the replacement for Enzo Maresca.
The Red Devils made a shocking decision on Monday as they decided to end their working relationship with Amorim. Man United officially announced the Portuguese tactician’s sacking via the club’s social media account, stating their thanks towards their former tactician while revealing that his dismissal is done at the right moment to help improve the team’s standings in the league.
“Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. The club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish,” the club’s official statement read.
Reports from English media revealed that the decision to sack Amorin had been brewing in the last few days, even before United’s game against Leeds United this past weekend. Rumors claim that the ex-Sporting coach’s disagreement with Man U’s management is the main reason for the sacking.
Amorin’s outburst after their draw against Leeds, seemingly indicating that there’s been a breakdown in the relationship between him and Man United’s management. Nevertheless, in terms of overall stats, the Portuguese tactician hasn’t really given plenty of confidence, especially regarding results.
Despite having an overall underwhelming record as United’s boss, many fans were not happy with Amorim’s dismissal. They believe that the team has shown positive progress so far this season, as at the moment they’re sitting sixth in the EPL with only four points behind fourth-place side, Liverpool.
Still, until before his sacking, statistically, Amorim has been Man U’s worst manager since Alex Ferguson’s departure. The former Sporting boss collected 25 wins, 15 draws, and 23 defeats from 63 matches
For now, Man United’s director has decided to appoint Darren Fletcher as an interim coach. He will be leading the club’s midweek Premier League clash against Burnley.
