When you purely look at the stats of both pickaxes, at face value, the Demonic pickaxe has slightly better Luck and a much stronger Mining Power. However, its Mining Speed is -15%, whereas the Arcane pickaxe has an increased Mining Speed of +10%.
Both pickaxes have 3 Rune Slots, so they’re the same in that sense. Even the Luck stat of the Demonic pickaxe is only 1% higher than the Arcane pickaxe.
When comparing them, it’s important to look at their obtainment methods and costs. With such a small disparity between the two, which one is easiest to get and the most worth it?
For the Demonic pickaxe, you need to complete the Demonite Key quest, which takes time due to the requirement of 3 Demonites. This ore type is of the Mythical rarity with a 1 in 3,666 chance of dropping.
You get the Demonite Key as a reward, which opens the Demonic Door, leading you to the Demonic pickaxe, which you can purchase for 500,000 Gold.
The obtainment method for the Arcane pickaxe is much simpler. You need to complete the Bard’s quest, which requires you to find his guitar, hidden within a secret location in the Stonewake’s Cross cave.
As a reward, you get an Unknown Key, which unlocks the entrance to the Fallen Angel’s Cave (the location of the Arcane pickaxe!). From here, you can purchase the pickaxe for 125,000 Gold.
From this, it’s clear to see that the Arcane pickaxe is not only cheaper but is also easier to get. Considering that the Arcane pickaxe has a strong Luck and Mining Speed stat, with a high Mining Power. The Demonic pickaxe is a good option if you need the 175 Mining Power, but overall, I’d say to go for the Arcane pickaxe instead!
