The latest fan-voted Aston Villa player ratings are in after Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League victory against Young Boys at Villa Park.
Villa supporters submitted their player ratings via our AVF ratings form, which we’ll be inviting you to do via our social media throughout the 2025/26 season.
The process is simple. We’ll share a link at full time to ask fans to give every Villa player a score out of 10 – without a zero because we’re grown-ups and so are you – before adding in my own ratings from Aston Villa Review and taking an average.
These average scores will be used for Power Rankings each month and, ultimately, to crown a Player of the Season.
Emiliano Martínez – 6.5
There were no major alarm bells in this one from Villa’s silly billy-in-chief, who had no obvious culpability for the Young Boys consolation goal.
Victor Lindelöf – 6.3
A solid display from the experienced centre-back. He was played in his preferred position and handled his business with a minimum of fuss.
Lamare Bogarde – 5.8
Bogarde had three chances to shoot from the edge of the box. He went for it twice and both were blocked, but it was encouraging to see him in those positions from right-back.
Pau Torres – 5.8
Young Boys allowed Villa to play passes to feet and in behind, so Torres enjoyed himself rather more than he did in the last Premier League game. I had him on a slightly higher rating.
Ian Maatsen – 5.5
Maatsen was perhaps the Villa player most guilty of complacency and it showed in his defending. The work was there but his decisions at both ends were poor.
Youri Tielemans – 7.3
I thought Tielemans was majestic in midfield from the start and was the best player on the pitch for the hour he played, with one arguable exception. Assisted Villa’s first goal.
Amadou Onana – 6.8
This was another impressive two-way performance from Onana, who was important for Villa in possession but was also battling back whenever required.
Evann Guessand 4.5
Guessand lacked polish in attacking positions and he wasn’t anywhere near decisive enough in the final third. He should have been able to affect the game against poor opposition.
Morgan Rogers – 7.0
I gave Rogers an 8 for the Young Boys game because of his impact in a free role and a stellar assist for Villa’s second goal. He was sharp throughout.
Jadon Sancho – 5.3
This was another standard Sancho performance in a Villa shirt. He puts the work in for the most part, gets on the ball in important areas, yet comes away with the game having passed him by.
Donyell Malen – 8.3 – MOTM
An offside flag away from a perfect hat-trick. Brilliant.
Emi Buendía – 5.8
On long enough to show both sides of his game, battling away and scooping a clever pass in behind for Ollie Watkins.
Ross Barkley – 5.5
Came on with half an hour to play, controlled the midfield for a while and nearly scored.
Ollie Watkins – 5.3
Lots of work but a total dearth of confidence in front of goal.
Ezri Konsa – 5.3
Konsa didn’t have much to do after coming on with half an hour to play but was on his toes when needed.
Boubacar Kamara – 5.5
I didn’t score Kamara as Villa’s late substitute.
