After a couple of level-ups, a Perk Point will be available to unlock a perk for the respective skills you have. The Perk acts as a passive bonus and grants various benefits for your acquired skills. Each level requires a certain amount of XP, and the amount of XP increases for every level.
The best ways to level up fast in The Outer Worlds 2 include methods such as eliminating enemies, completing main and side missions, discovering new areas, and performing skill-specific actions. Here is a brief explanation for each method to gain XP quickly in The Outer Worlds 2.
During your playthrough, you must eliminate all enemies to rack up as much XP as you can. Kill any main story-related enemies or region enemies in your way. The weaker enemies grant low XP, around 50 to 100, and the stronger enemies grant high XP, around 200 to 300. The best enemy type to eliminate and get high XP is the creatures. There are various creature types on every planet that you will visit throughout the story.
The creatures count as the region or field’s enemies. Unlike story-related enemies, the field’s enemies respawn after three days (real-time). It is a long wait, but as you progress through the story and do a lot of side content, you will have plenty of planets to visit and explore. Go to each planet and start eliminating any creature you see to earn XP. After three days, fast-travel to the planets again to hunt the creatures for XP. It is the fastest way currently available in The Outer Worlds 2.
The next best method to get thousands of XP is to complete the missions. After the tutorial, when you land at Paradise Island, you will meet various NPCs with requests. It is best to complete the side missions to get thousands of XP and level up fast early in the game. Moreover, throughout the journey, your main missions will let you meet with potential NPCs with a couple of quests. It is best to complete their side missions alongside the main mission to level up swiftly.
As you get to unlock more planets and locations by progressing in the main story, it is best to navigate through each one. This will allow you to discover every location on each planet, and each discovery will give you +500 to +1,000 XP. Take a walk with your companions to every corner to potentially discover all major locations. Moreover, this strategy also helps you find more field enemies.
Another great way to earn a decent amount of XP is by performing skill-specific actions. These include actions such as lockpicking, hacking, fixing doors, pickpocketing, or selecting dialogue options tied to a skill or a background. However, before you can perform such actions, you must put in a significant amount of Skill Points into the respective skills. The requirements to perform skill-specific actions are unique at all locations. As you cannot spend Skill Points in all of the Skills in your playthrough, I recommend spending them in Lockpicking and Engineering alongside your main ones, like Guns, Speech, Sneak, etc. You will run into various containers and doors requiring Lockpicking and Engineering Skills. If you have these two skills, you will be able to perform most of the Skill-Specific actions in your exploration. Not only that, but these actions will reward you handsomely with rare weapons and armor, especially from containers.
The last method, which is not suitable for your first playthrough, is to get the Foot-in-Mouth flaw. This flaw grants you 15% bonus XP while talking to NPCs. However, you have to be quick in your decisions. If you do not choose a dialogue option within 15 seconds, the flaw chooses a random option, which can turn out badly in certain situations. You can acquire this flaw by rushing through the conversation with NPCs.
