This guide tells you how to survive the new Dead Rails Scorched Earth mode, including what to expect when you load in and what to prioritise for survival.

Scorched Earth is a new mode, and completing it rewards players with 30 Bonds and 9 Badges from the Challenges Board in the lobby.
When choosing your gamemode, the Scorched Earth appears after Nightmare, which may be a precursor to its difficulty. The game describes Scorched Earth with “No classes allowed. Kerosene rains during the day, flaming enemies attack at night…”
As soon as you spawn into a Scorched Earth game, the sky will rain Kerosene. This doesn’t harm the player much, but they will ignite in flames if a zombie gets too close, which is almost certain to be game over.
If you’re unlucky enough to set on fire, the only way to extinguish the engulfing flames is to find liquids inside buildings from different towns and pour them on the floor, and step over them.
At the start of a new game, use sheet metal to cover the back entrance of the train and its windows. This simply prevents zombies from invading, keeping the player safe at night when fast-moving fire zombies restlessly chase them. This allows the player time to gear up after visiting a few towns over a few days, as Scorched Earth prevents classes.
Once well-equipped, play the game as normal and try and reach the final bridge to complete Scorched Earth. Easier said than done, but there isn’t much you can do to cheese the game without the use of Classes…
