Which are the best Birthsigns in Oblivion?
Best Birthsigns
There cannot be a singular ‘best Birthsign’ as it entirely depends on the type of character you’re playing. For example, a melee character benefits more from a Birthsign that boosts their Agility, etc.
Magic Characters
- The Mage
- Increases your Magicka points by 50, which is a nice boost for your spells
- Great beginner Birthsign
- The Ritual
- This is only if you want to be able to heal yourself with spells, as the Mara’s Gift Greater Power replenishes 200 HP upon use
- Plus, the undead are scared of you, which is a win-win
Melee Characters
- The Warrior
- Buffs your Strength and Endurance
- Good beginner Birthsign
- The Lord
- Buffs your Armor and Magic Resistance
- The Lady
- Buffs your Endurance and Willpower
Stealth Characters
- The Thief
- Buffs your Speed, Agility, and Luck
- Strong beginner class
- The Shadow
- You can turn invisible for 60 seconds thanks to the Moonshadow Greater Power ability
Ranged Characters
- The Lover
- Unlocks Lover’s Kiss, which is an ability that paralyses the enemy for 10 seconds and reduces your Fatigue by 120 points
All Birthsigns
The buffs and debuffs that come with each Birthsign. An important thing to note is that ‘Fortify’ means you get that buff instantly, without needing to cast it, making it a core part of your character’s build.
Additionally, Greater Powers are abilities that you can only use once per day in-game! Some Birthsigns unlock new Greater Powers for your character.
The Warrior
Warriors benefit from boosted Endurance and Strength.
- Fortifies your Endurance and increases it by 10 points
- Fortifies your Strength and increases it by 10 points
The Steed
Just like a horse, those under the Steed can move much quicker.
- Fortifies your Speed and increases it by 20 points
The Atronach
On the defence… but still quite weak.
- Fortifies your Magicka and increases it by 150 points
- You cannot regenerate your Magicka
- You have a 50% chance of absorbing any spell that is cast towards you
The Mage
Mages have a stronger Magicka stat as a whole.
- Fortifies your Magicka and increases it by 50 points
The Apprentice
With a higher amount of Magicka, the main downside is that they are more vulnerable to magical attacks.
- Fortifies your Magicka and increases it by 100 points
- You are 100% weaker to oncoming magical attacks
The Tower
Good for those who struggle with lockpicking.
- Unlocks Greater Power: Tower Warden ability
- You reflect 5% of incoming DMG for a total of 120 seconds, but you can only use this ability once per in-game day
- Unlocks the Tower Key ability, which allows you to open Average Difficulty locks, but only once per in-game day
The Serpent
Simply poisonous.
- Unlocks Greater Power: Serpent Spell ability
- You deal 3 points of DMG for a total of 20 seconds
- This ability can cure Poison, getting rid of 90 points
- Adds 100 points to your Fatigue (instant Fatigue)
The Ritual
They can heal and scare away the undead – pretty cool!
- Unlocks Greater Power: Mara’s Gift ability
- You replenish 200 health points, but you can only use this ability once per in-game day
- Unlocks the Blessed Word ability, which scares away the undead for 30 seconds
- You can use this ability multiple times per in-game day, but it costs 40 Magicka points each time
The Thief
Thieves rely on Speed, Luck, and Agility.
- Fortifies your Luck and increases it by 10 points
- Fortifies your Speed and increases it by 10 points
- Fortifies your Agility and increases it by 10 points
The Shadow
Become one with the shadows.
- Unlocks Greater Power: Moonshadow ability
- This allows you to turn invisible for a total of 60 seconds, but you can only use this ability once per in-game day
The Lord
A defensive Birthsign.
- Unlocks Resist Magic, which increases your Magic Resistance by 15%
- Unlocks Shield, which increases your Armor by 15
The Lady
An enduring Birthsign.
- Fortifies your Endurance and increases it by 10 points
- Fortifies your Willpower and increases it by 10 points
The Lover
A paralysing Birthsign.
- Unlocks Greater Power: Lover’s Kiss ability
- You paralyse the enemy for 10 seconds
- Reduces your Fatigue by 120 points
- You can use this ability once per in-game day
