The international break, the final one for this season, is behind us and Manchester United are getting ready to be back in action. With March coming to an end, we are looking forward to what awaits the Red Devils in the month of April. There will be a total of seven matches across two competitions and these games could ultimately decide the fate of Ruben Amorim’s team for the next season.

Tough Trip To Nottingham

First off, Man United will kick off April on the Fools Day with a trip to Nottingham. Coming into the season, no one could have expected Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest to be sitting in third place, above the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, but also Man United and Tottenham. After such a difficult campaign 12 months ago, Forest are now inching towards an unlikely Champions League qualification and therefore, it is clear the trip to the City Ground will pose a big challenge for United. After already losing at Old Trafford, the Devils will want to get their first consecutive wins of the season.

Hosting The Manchester Derby

If that was not tough enough, just wait until 6 April, when the Manchester Derby will be happening at Old Trafford. United will host City in a highly awaited matchup. Pep Guardiola’s side are far from good this season for their expected levels, and Ruben Amorim has already defeated him twice, including that Champions League encounter with Sporting, just before he moved to England. It is clear this will be a huge challenge for United, but it is also a fact that in recent years City had their bad moments against Devils when they were least expected.

Lyon Challenges In Europa League

That will be followed with Europa League action, as United will be travelling to France to face Lyon on 10 April in the quarterfinal first leg match. This will be an important chance for United to get closer to the semis, and to maybe even lifting the trophy which would get them to Champions League football via backdoor. In between the two matches will be another tough away match, as United will be facing Newcastle on 13 April at the St James’ Park. Four days later, the second leg against Lyon will be at Old Trafford.

Home Fixture Against Wolves

Following those Europa League challenges, from which we will find out whether United will play in the semifinals on 1 and 8 May, the team will then host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on 20 April. Wolves are in 17th place, but with a big cushion between them and three teams in the relegation zone, and in recent weeks they started winning more often.

A Trip To The South Coast

And finally, on 27 April, United will make a trip south to face Bournemouth. This should be a tricky fixture, although the Cherries are far from the form they were in January and February. They will have a handful of matches to play before they face United, but their lead over the Devils is so big that they will probably stay above them until that match arrives.
