The TRIBE NINE XB matches are tricky to get used to if you’ve never played Danganronpa before! For those that have, you’ll recognise some of the mechanics.

An important thing to note is that there are no ties in XB matches, meaning either your team or the opponent must win or lose.
If you’ve played Danganronpa, you’re already familiar with the format of the Class Trials. Now, TRIBE NINE is obviously a completely different game, but that doesn’t mean we can’t apply the same logic to the XB matches.
Between you and your opponent, you must select rebuttals to counter their statements. Correctly doing so weakens the enemy, but make sure to keep an eye on your Tension bar. It works similarly to how it does in combat.
During an XB match, there is a small diagram in the top left. It shows the potential spots where you and your allies may end up position-wise when you make certain decisions. It’s useful for when you’re not too sure what to do next, and want a helping hand when making a choice.
When the grid appears, and you can select which statement to say, the diagram on the left shows a blue light, signifying the direction of where the character will move. Depending on the grid, there may be various statements to choose from. Hover over them all to make sure!
Afterwards, the positions switch on the diagram. If you are ‘safe’, the cutscene that plays showcases your team coming face to face with members of the opposing team… and evading their attack! The opposite happens if the previous round didn’t go so well.
The Verity Orbs in TRIBE NINE are similar to the Truth Bullets you collect before a Class Trial in Danganronpa. Verity Orbs are pieces of evidence that you can use during an XB match to rebuke and weaken your opponent. Some are useless, and others have a strong effect. Choose wisely and read through them.
